When you know you are doing the right thing, the profound peace you feel makes you forget your fatigue (a great feeling, we highly recommend that everyone try it ![]()
We decided to share the info about one of our weekdays with you ![]()
Below is a report of how three employees spent their day:
1. We wrote to our friends in the Czech Republic, suggesting we start a Homeless Rescue Service in Kyiv.
2. We messaged a consulting company, asking them to continue with the audit of our activities
3. Since a glue gun broke down at one of the shelters, we tried to fix it, gave it up, went to the store to buy a new one. As a result, the old one started to function, whereas the new one won’t work at all ![]()
4. We wrote and delivered complaint letters about the doctors of Medical Social Expert Commission to the Ministry of Healthcare, the Department of Healthcare, the Association of Persons with Disabilities of Ukraine, and the Department of Social Policy. For weeks (!), the MSEC doctors had been demanding some non-existent certificate, sending us either to the family doctor or to the Treatment Consulting Commission, only to deny two of our patients’ admission papers for a state rehabilitation center in the end.
5. At the Department of Social Policy, we received three signed admissions to the Yasnohorodka center for homeless patients of hospital # 18. Tomorrow, we will take them to Yasnohorodka.
6. We met the kind person who decided to buy some new pairs of spectacles for our shelters.
We thanked this volunteer, took the spectacles and brought them to the shelters.
7. We conducted a general talk with everyone at the shelters and one-on-one talks with some.
8. With the help of some medical tests and doctor consultations, we learned the cost of surgery for an elderly patient we have. This surgery was supposed to help avoid amputation of his legs.
We realized that the cost was incredibly high. Besides, some of the doctors pointed out that certain medications could bring about better results. So, we decided to start raising funds for the medicines.
9. We went to Harmatna street to obtain a registration certificate for one of our patients.
10. Had a talk with an enraged lady from Belarus, the relative of a grandma (97 y.o.!) who spent three months in one of our shelters and who was brought to Brest by one of our volunteers. The volunteer forgot to give her back her birth certificate.
Unfortunately, he is unable to give it back right now, as he is currently in a different country, looking after his mother-in-law after she had two strokes.
We had to listen to the threats about her writing to the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Consulate, the European Court etc.
Finally, we blessed her, wished her good luck and said goodbye ![]()
11. Brought Petro (our patient) to Myronivka village, took him to the passport office, village council, military commissariat and the tax office.
12. Helped another patient and the “Inter” TV channel journalists, the “It’s about everyone” show («Стосується кожного») talk to each other
13. Agreed with the Laska Charity Shop (Благодійний магазин Ласка) that on Saturday, we will take the clothes and toothpaste they prepared for people in the shelters.
14. Listened to some ladies quarrel at one of the shelters
15. Together, the three of us made/answered 72 phone calls about all sorts of things
16. Made a plan for tomorrow ![]()
