Martin of Tours (317-397) – Roman officer, Christian priest, founder of chaplaincy.
According to legend, Martin was on a winter military campaign and saw a freezing homeless man. Martin gave him half of his cloak, which is called “cappa”. And at night in a dream he saw Christ dressed in his cloak, Who said to the angels: “Look, Martin has dressed me!”.
In the world, many people, Christian churches and ministries are named in honor of Saint Martin. Among them is the Evangelical-lutheran community of St. Martin of Tours, Kyiv.

During the Russian-Ukrainian war, we do not stand aside, but actively help Ukraine. This initiative, united under the name #MartinHelps

1) We have a homeless service “House of Mercy Kyiv (HOM), helping people who have lost their homes to return to normal life. Among our wards:
Forcibly displaced persons from frontline territories;
Released from captivity, who have nowhere to return;
Homeless elderly and homeless people with disabilities.

2) Since 2022, church ministers have also become military chaplains and take care of both active military personnel and veterans.We visit military units where our parishioners and friends from other Christian churches serve; we have a rehabilitation center where veterans regain strength.

Assistance to the homeless includes temporary accommodation, document renewal, food, clothing, medicines, prayer, spiritual guidance, attending services and Bible hours.
For the military, this includes spiritual care, rehabilitation, and targeted collections for the needs of the army.
That is, our church serves the defenders of Ukraine and people in difficult circumstances in word and deed.
