Construction of a shelter

Since 2020, «House of Mercy Kiev» had its own shelter in Andriivka, Makariv district. Up to 20 people lived there constantly. As the number of people in need increased, we planned to build another house. But the war began. As a result of enemy shelling, the shelter was destroyed. Unfortunately, it cannot be restored. The surviving wards were mostly sent to the state boarding house for the homeless, and some live in apartments that we rent for them.

In the spring of 2023, Czech friends from Diakonie ČCE financed the purchase of a plot of land in Pogreby, Kyiv region. This location is very close to Kyiv, it is quick and easy to get to. We had funds for filling the plot, buying a trailer and a toilet, building a large gazebo and a fence. All this was done.

As a result of russia’s armed aggression, the number of homeless elderly and homeless disabled people is increasing, and a separate category has appeared among them — those whose homes were destroyed by the enemy.

Our goal is to help such people. Give them shelter and decent living conditions. These are the people who are not able to take care of themselves. Shelter «Mercy House Kyiv» is just for them. During the year, we provide comprehensive assistance to about 100 homeless people, and partial assistance to several thousand. They are with us temporarily, as our own shelter has been destroyed. We want to build a home where 30 homeless elderly people and homeless people with signs of disability can stay permanently.
