It was Алена Мельник who introduced us to Ihor. He is one of her fosterlings whom she regularly feeds.
Of the three homeless people whom we offered to try to change their lives that day, all three agreed, but when it got to a point, only one of them went to the House of Mercy Kyiv – it was Ihor )))
During those three weeks that he was staying with us, he improved his health and we began to help him have his documents re-issued.
Last Friday we took him to a private nursing home near Brovary and we are going to help him to socialize there.
Here is his story.
“My name is Pelykh Ihor Ivanovych, born in 1960.
My father’s name is Pelykh Ivan Ivanovych, my mother’s name is Pelykh Anna Ivanivna.
I was born in Kyiv, in Vetriany Hory district. There I lived in a private house all through my childhood, I did not attend a kindergarten, my grandmother and grandfather brought me up.
After school I entered the college of radio electronics and then graduated.
I got married in 1979.
At 23, I was called into the army and was sent to Turkmenistan.
When I came back home, I got a job as a fisherman. I mostly worked on the Kyiv Sea.
The son was born and grew up. But, unfortunately, after he joined the army, my wife and I got divorced.
Then I married again.
I almost did not communicate with my previous family. By that time, my parents had already died and I buried them.
I understand that I have to blame myself for being in the street – I did not value my relationships with people.
I got divorced once more.
I lived as a loner, worked, rented a room, but then suddenly I broke my hip due to an unsuccessful fall. Then a broken arm was added, on which a plaster was put incorrectly, which was the reason why the bone knitted in a wrong way. I found myself unable to work and got homeless.
I really want to change my life! Yet I do not know how it could be, but I believe that it is possible.”
